It’s that time of year again. You know, the season when life is completely overwhelming, ridiculous task forced upon you with no regard for relevance or logistics, and you haven’t made a single thing since last spring because it’s basically always “that season”, but this one is completely worse… you guessed it! The start of the school year. Anyway, small joys show themselves rarely, but this one I can usually count on, collaging journal covers. This particular one is an example for my level one students.
Last year was a bit of a bummer without paper visual journals, so I’m thrilled to bring these back this year, kicking off with a new cover concept. We generally always do collages for the cover, but this year, on the first day, kiddos will have their photo taken of them in a pose that begs interaction with other found images.
I talk with my hands a lot, so for my photo I made my hands appear super expressive. I also encourage a growth mindset in art and the humans I teach, so finding the word Grow was perfect! The Yes is also quite perfect. Each element of my collage has personal meaning, which is also encouraged for my kiddo’s collages.
